THE INITIATIVE

An Industry-Supported
Learning Initiative

The SKILL NEXT initiative was designed by BMW Group India to support automotive learning across engineering institutions.

2018

Launched on 29 March 2018, BMW Group India initiated the "SKILL NEXT" programme to provide 365 BMW engine and transmission units to engineering colleges, industrial training institutes, and polytechnics across the country.

Guru Kashi University is proud to be a recipient of this prestigious unit, integrating it directly into the mechanical engineering curriculum to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application.

• THE CURRICULAM

From Classroom Concepts to Real-World Engineering

The demonstration unit is integrated across multiple semesters in the engineering curricula, providing tangible hands-on exposure in core automotive and mechanical engineering disciplines.

01

Engine Architecture

Understanding the in-line 4-cylinder layout, crank assembly, balance shafts, and structural stiffness of modern lightweight engine blocks.

02

Fuel Injection

Analysis of high-pressure Common Rail Diesel Injection (CRDi) systems, piezo injectors, and multi-pulse injection strategies.

03

Turbocharging

Studying the aerodynamics and thermal dynamics of BMW TwinPower variable-geometry turbochargers and intercooling systems.

04

Drive-line & Transmission

Demystifying the 8-speed planetary gear train, torque converter lockup mechanism, mechatronics control, and adaptive shift algorithms.

05

Thermal Management

Investigating map-controlled cooling circuits, split-cooling radiators, electronically controlled thermostats, and fast warm-up circuits.

06

Engine Components

Identifying the internal functioning and layout of all key engine components such as pistons, connecting rods, crankshaft, and cylinder head.
