Selection Process

  • Step 1

    Review of applications by the admissions committee and relevant academic departments.

  • Step 2

    Interviews with prospective supervisors and faculty members.

  • Step 3

    UGC/CSIR NET / GATE qualified students are eligible for selection by direct interview. Such candidates need not to appear for Ph.D. entrance test. Their NET score is counted for eligibility and admission to Ph.D. programs.

Research Department
Conduct of Ph.D. Entrance Test

The Research Department organizes and manages the university-level entrance test for admission to the Ph.D. programs. This includes the publication of notifications, examination arrangements, evaluation, and declaration of results.

Course Work Coordination

Upon admission, the Research Department oversees the smooth conduct of the mandatory Ph.D. coursework. This includes scheduling, monitoring attendance, assessment of internal and external evaluations, and issuing course completion certificates.

Allocation of Supervisors

The Department facilitates the allocation of Ph.D. supervisors in accordance with the research interests of scholars and the specialization and availability of faculty. Proper care is taken to ensure the supervisor-to-scholar ratio and research capacity.

Departmental Research Committee (DRC)

The Department coordinates the functioning of DRCs across departments for evaluating and approving synopsis presentations, changes in research topics, and monitoring research progress.

Synopsis Viva and Pre-Submission Evaluation

The Research Department schedules and facilitates the synopsis viva, ensuring that the research work aligns with the university’s academic expectations. The scholar must complete the pre-submission seminar before final submission of the thesis.

Thesis Evaluation and External Review Process

Post submission, the Department ensures the thesis is reviewed by external experts of NAAC A+ grade professor-level status, in consultation with the Esteemed Vice Chancellor Sir. The final approval and viva-voce are conducted following rigorous academic scrutiny.

Research Advisory Committee (RAC)

It also coordinates the formation and meetings of RACs for every scholar, ensuring periodic review of research progress and providing necessary academic and technical guidance.

Awarding Degree

After successful completion of viva-voce and incorporation of suggested changes (if any), the Research Department forwards the recommendation for the award of the Ph.D. degree to the university authorities.

R&D Cell

The core functions of the R&D Cell revolve around funding support, scholarly communication, and faculty mentoring. It regularly floats funding calls and alerts faculty to grant opportunities from agencies such as DBT, ICSSR, ICMR, DST, ANRF and others. Grant support includes guidance on eligibility, proposal formatting, budget preparation, and timely submission. The cell also facilitates manuscript preparation and patent filing: for example, it encourages faculty to leverage schemes like the DBT KAPILA Program (for patent grants) and provides templates for Indian patent applications. One key function is offering one-on-one research mentoring—experienced faculty guide colleagues through research design, publication strategy, and career planning, thus “encouraging faculty members to prepare research proposals” and interdisciplinary projects.

In addition, the R&D Cell provides hands-on support with research software tools. For reference management, we train faculty to use Mendeley, enabling them to store all references in one place and organize bibliographies efficiently. For manuscript integrity, Turnitin is used not just for plagiarism checks but also for its AI-writing detection capabilities: Turnitin’s AI checker helps educators, publishers, and researchers identify when an AI writing tool may have been used, thus ensuring adherence to originality norms. We have also trained AI-enhanced research assistantship to faculty members like “Deep Research” tool – which autonomously conducts multi-layered literature searches and synthesis to generate comprehensive reports, empowering faculty to explore complex topics rapidly.

Other software support includes lab design tools and analysis packages as needed. Overall, the cell’s operations blend traditional grant facilitation (proposal writing, budgeting, liaison with agencies) with modern research support services (software training, AI tools, patent guidance) to comprehensively assist faculty research activities.
